Solar Charge Time Calculator by Location

Use region and month presets to turn a generic solar estimate into a planning range for camping, RV, and outage charging.

Daily solar estimate

1,380 WhDaily solar estimate: 1,380 Wh

US Southwest in January uses a 4.6 peak-sun-hour planning preset.

Effective input300 W

Optimistic1,656 Wh

Conservative assumes harder conditions; optimistic assumes favorable conditions.

  • These presets are planning estimates. Live weather, shade, tilt, smoke, snow, heat, and panel direction can change the result.
  • For site-specific solar resource data, run the same location in PVWatts and replace the preset with documented monthly values.

Planning Presets, Not Weather

This planner uses conservative monthly region presets. A future version can connect an authoritative solar resource API, but even then the result should stay a planning estimate.

Location

Peak sun hours vary heavily between the Southwest, Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, and Pacific Northwest.

Season

Winter and summer solar estimates can differ by several hours of equivalent full sun per day.

Station limit

A station cannot accept more solar input than its charge controller allows, even with a larger panel array.

Solar sizing outside the battery plan

If you need panel sizing before station-specific limits, use a dedicated solar calculator for panel watts, sun hours, and daily energy.
